New Delhi: Zomato and Swiggy on Saturday (May 22) suspended their services in Hyderabad after their executives were roughed up by cops for delivering food which is a clear violation of the Telangana government’s own order.
“This has caused a lot of inconvenience to people staying isolated because of Covid, or those needing other food delivery services,” they said.
Meanwhile, people living in Hyderabad got a notification on their app which read “Curfew has started in you area. As per the mandate all restaurants will remain closed closed from 02:45 pm to 06:00 am.”
According to the state government’s order food delivery comes under an essential category which is allowed during the lockdown.
Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted, “Received several complaints on the police stopping the food delivery services & others in distress Will discuss with @TelanganaDGP and resolve asap.”
Following this DCP Telangana held a review meeting with three commissioners of police over the matter.
He tweeted,”Held a review meeting with 3 commissioners of police, regd, the several requests flagged with ‘Disruption of essential services including food deliveries etc,.@eCommerce,while tightening of LockDownToday’. Directed to ensure a seamless supply ahead, while executing #StrictLockdown.”
