Cyclone Jawad To Make Landfall Near Odisha’s Puri On Dec 5, Says IMD

The IMD has also issued rainfall warning for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal on December 3, 4, 5 and 6.

New Delhi: With Wind speed going up to 100 kilometers per hour, Cyclone Jawad is expected to hit the coast of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning, accompanied by heavy rains and thunderstorms. As per the India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm Jawad is expected to make landfall near Puri (Odisha).

The cyclone Jawad is expected to move northwestwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts by December 4 morning. “Thereafter, to recurve north-northeastwards and move along Odisha coast reaching near Puri around 5th December noon,” the IMD bulletin added.

The IMD had previously said that Cyclone Jawad will likely reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts by Saturday morning.

In its latest update, IMD added that subsequently, Cyclone Jawad is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along coastal Odisha towards West Bengal coast.

Rainfall Warning

Dec 3: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha.

Dec 4: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall & extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over south coastal Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Odisha and adjoining interior districts and also over coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal.

Dec 5: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

Dec 6: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura and heavy rainfall at isolated places over West Bengal.
