New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday morning said that the eye of cyclonic storm Tauktae, which had hit the coast of Gujarat in Saurashtra has ended. The department also added that the eye of Cyclone Tauktae is disorganising.
The IMD tweeted, “The VSCS TAUKTAE lay centred at 0430 HRS IST of 18TH MAY 2021 over SAURASHTRA, near LAT. 21.40°N AND LONG. 71.20°E, about 85 KM north-northeast of Diu and 20 KM south of AMRELI. The cyclone continues to show weakening trend. Eye is disorganising, wall cloud is weakening.”

Meanwhile, the Indian Navy and NDRF still remain vigilant and continue to conduct rescue operations along the Western coast.
Following the effects of the cyclone Tauktae, numerous parts of Northern India including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will witness rainfall.
“18/05/2021: 05:25 IST; Light intensity rain would occur over isolated places of Hathras, Sikandra Rao, Greater-Noida, Narora, Raya, Atrauli, Kashganj, Mathura, Sahaswan, Nandgaon, Barsana, Jahangirabad, Khurja, Pahasu, Tundla, Agra, Jattari, Jajau (U.P.),Hodal, Gohana (Haryana)”, tweeted the meteorological department.
“Bayana, Mehndipur, Mahwa, Dausa, Kotputli, Rajgarh, Nagaur, Nadbai (Rajasthan) and adjoining areas during the next 2 hours”, the tweet further informed.
Amid Cyclone Taukate, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday night held an emergency meeting with officials of the coastal districts of Valsad and Gir Somnath at Gandhinagar’s State Control Room.
Patients from a coronavirus care centre in Gujarat’s Vadodara were also moved to hospitals on Monday as precaution. Nodal Officer Sheetal Mistry said, “In view of IMD’s warning for Cyclone Tauktae, we are shifting COVID-19 patients from various facilities to hospitals.”
Meanwhile, the road connecting Gujarat’s Somnath district and the Union Territory of Diu (Daman & Diu) was blocked due to fallen trees, but been cleared by the Army personnel.
