New Delhi: The Election Commission of India will announce the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Goa, Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
“Press Conference by Election Commission of India for the announcement of Schedule for General Election to Legislative Assemblies of Goa, Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh,” reads the official statement.
“The press conference will be held in Vigyan Bhawan at 3:30 pm on January 8,” it added. Out of these 5 poll-bound states, the BJP is in power in 4 states including Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Leaders from all the political parties are campaigning aggressively for months to register their win in the upcoming polls.
Election campaigns have taken a halt in mostly all of these five states due to rising cases of covid-19 in the country. All political parties have now have resumed to door-to-door campaigning and virtual mode of rallies in the areas.
On Friday, senior officials of Election Commission and Health Ministry met to discuss the polling and Coronavirus situations in the polling states. Some precautionary measures have been taken to note among them doubly vaccinated staff at polling booths was discussed.
Lately UP’s Allahabad court asked Election Commission (EC) and Prime Minister Modi to defer polling by few months since there have been a huge spike in Coronavirus infections noted.
Uttar-Pradesh, Punjab, Assam are expected to have multi-phase elections due to its wide areas and coronavirus infections. To avoid accumulation of people together at once there will be some precautionary measures taken at pooling booths.
