New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently under home quarantine with “mild symptoms.” “I have tested positive for Corona today with mild symptoms. I am under home quarantine. I request everyone who have recently come in my contact to isolate themselves and get tested,” tweeted the Defence Minister. On January 8, Singh had addressed a webinar wherein 100 new Sainik schools were provided opportunities for girls to join the Armed Forces.
On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on said that he has tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 infection. In an early morning tweet, the 53-year-old had said, that he has “mild symptoms”, adding that he has isolated himself at his home.
Meanwhile, Delhi on Monday reported 22,751 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 24 per cent as state Health Minister Satyendar Jain warned that Omicron variant is behind the surge in infections in the city and more restrictions will be implemented if the bed occupancy rate goes up.
Health ministry on Monday said only 5-10 per cent of active Covid-19 patients have needed hospitalisation this time around compared with 20-23 per cent in the previous wave that peaked in May.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 13.29 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 7.92 per cent. The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive has exceeded 151.94 crore, the ministry said.
Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the Covid pandemic, reported 44,388 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths linked to the virus on Sunday. The state tally of Covid-19 positive patients stands at 69,20,044. There are 2,02,259 active cases in the state.
