Delhi Logs 20,181 New Covid-19 cases, Positivity Rate Mounts To 19.6%

The active cases reached 48,178, while the death toll climbed to 25,143.

New Delhi: Delhi on Saturday reported 20,181 fresh cases of COVID-19, as the positivity rate rose to 19.6 per cent. A total of 11,869 recoveries and seven deaths were also reported in the national capital, as per the state health bulletin. The active cases reached 48,178, while the death toll climbed to 25,143.

On Friday, Delhi reported 17,335 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths, witnessing a 15 per cent rise as compared to Thursday’s 15,097 cases.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday said that the capital has reported six times lower hospital admissions due to the coronavirus this time as compared to the first wave of the pandemic.

The Delhi government on Friday said that shops dealing in non-essential goods will only be allowed to open on an odd-even basis between 10 am to 8 pm. It further said that only one authorized weekly market up to 50 per cent limit of allowed vendors at the normal time per day zone will be allowed.

Amid the rising COVID-19 cases, the city government has already announced weekend and night curfews, among other restrictions to check crowding. Only essential services are allowed during these hours. Several other COVID restrictions have been imposed in the national capital as the cases rise.

India on Saturday reported 1,41,986 fresh Covid-19 cases, of which 40,895 recovery cases were noted. The death mark dipped slightly as compared to previous day, as the death toll stood at 285.

The country’s daily positivity rate was 9.28 per cent noting an increase in the positivity rate from yesterday’s 7.74 per cent. The tTotal active cases in India stood at 4,72,169 out of which 3,44,12,740 recovery cases have been recorded so far. The total death toll is 4,83,178.
