Delhi reports 19,166 New Covid-19 cases, Positivity Rate At 25%

The number of active cases rose to 65,806, while the death toll reached 25,177.

New Delhi: Delhi on Monday witnessed a dip in the fresh COVID-19 cases as it reported 19,166 infections, however, the positivity rate rose to 25 per cent. The national capital recorded 14,076 recoveries, and 17 deaths. The number of active cases rose to 65,806, while the death toll reached 25,177.

Delhi on Sunday reported 22,751 new COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours, as compared to yesterday’s 20,181 cases. The Capital reported the most number of COVID deaths in a day since June 16 last year. The tally of the active cases in the city has now reached 60,733 cases. The positivity rate of COVID cases in Delhi stood at 23.5 per cent.

The Delhi administration imposed fresh curbs in the city amid COVID-19 surge as it prohibited dining at restaurants and will allow only ‘take away’ facility. Following a review meeting with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said, “It was also decided to allow operation of only one weekly market per day per zone.”

The Delhi health department was advised to make adequate arrangements for additional manpower in hospitals and to scale up the vaccination efforts including for those in age group of 15-18 years, said LG Baijal, who was chairing the meeting.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to the people saying there was no need to panic as the capital will not see any lockdown if people continue to wear masks and follow all the COVID-19 protocols.

Delhi on Saturday reported 20,181 cases and seven deaths of COVID-19 with positivity rate of 19.6 per cent. The capital on Friday reported 17,335 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths, witnessing a 15 per cent rise as compared to Thursday’s 15,097 cases.
