Delhi Reports 24,383 New Covid-19 Cases; Positivity Rate Nearly 31%

The national capital reported 34 more deaths due to the virus and 26,236 recoveries from the disease.

New Delhi: Delhi on Friday recorded 24,383 new COVID-19 cases, as the positivity rate rose to 30.64 per cent. The national capital reported 34 more deaths due to the virus and 26,236 recoveries from the disease. The active cases of COVID-19 in Delhi stood at 92,273.

On Thursday, Delhi reported 28,867 new cases of COVID-19 and 31 deaths. The positivity rate in the city stood at 29.21 per cent. On Wednesday, the city had detected 27,561 cases of coronavirus at a positivity rate of 26.22 per cent. On Tuesday, the city had recorded 21,259 Covid-19 cases and 23 deaths.

Of the 164 COVID deaths recorded in the first 13 days of January, most patients had comorbidities, according to government data.

The weekend curfew, imposed in the national capital to check Covid spread, kicked in from Friday night putting on hold all non-essential activities for the next 55 hours. The weekend curfew has been imposed from 10 pm of Friday till 5 am of Monday by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) through its order on January 1.

India on Friday reported 2,64,202 fresh cases of COVID-19. The positive cases recorded today were 6.7 per cent higher than yesterday’s figure when 2,47,417 cases were logged across the country.

The daily positivity rate in the country is now 14.78 per cent. Around 315 COVID-19 patients lost lives in last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,85,350, as reported by Union Health Ministry. The death rate remained at 1.33 per cent.
