The constable wept and complained about the poor quality of food provided in the mess, drawing a huge crowd around him.

New Delhi: A video of a police constable in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh went viral on Thursday after he was recorded standing on the street with food served in the police mess. The constable wept and complained about the poor quality of food provided in the mess, drawing a huge crowd around him.

In the video, constable Manoj Kumar could be seen holding a plate of the meal, which included rotis, dal and rice. He sobbed as he showed the watery dal and undercooked rotis.

Kumar said he complained to his seniors, but no action was taken, instead he was threatened of being fired from the job. Meanwhile, another senior official could be seen trying to pacify him and make him to return to the police station.

“The Chief Minister had earlier announced that the state government provides an allowance to ensure a nutritious diet for police personnel. But this is what we get after long hours of duty,” he said. The constable raised a pertinent question as he asked, “How will cops work if we won’t get a proper diet?”

Another video showed him sitting on a divider with the food. “Even animals won’t eat this,” he could be heard saying.

Reacting to the incident, the Firozabad police said in a tweet that a probe has been ordered in the quality of food, as well as, the constable’s actions. The police alleged that Manoj Kumar has a past of disciplinary issues. Kumar previously has faced action at least 15 times over irregularity and indiscipline, they said.
