Former Gujarat and Rajasthan Governor retired Justice Anshuman Singh passed away in Prayagraj at the age of 85. According to reports, Anshuman Singh passed away at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow on Monday (March 8). Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot expressed grief in a tweet and said, “My heartfelt condolences at the passing away of Justice Shri Anshuman Singh, who served as Governor of Rajasthan & Gujarat. His contribution in the judiciary and public life shall always be remembered. May God give strength to his family members to bear this loss. May his soul RIP.”

Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker CP Joshi also took to the Twitter and expressed his grief and said, “My deepest condolences on the passing away of Sh. Anshuman Singh ji , Ex Governor of Rajasthan . May God provide strength to the family in this time of great sorrow . May His Soul Rest In Peace .”

Rajasthan government has declared one-day mourning in the state and all flags in the state will fly half-mast on the government buildings. The state government, to console his demise, has also canceled Women’s day celebrations and events in the state.

Late Justice Anshuman Singh was born on July 7 1935 in Allahabad and did his graduation from University of Allahabad in 1975. Anshuman Singh took over as the Governor of Rajasthan on January 16, 1999 and held his post in state till May 13, 2003. Before Rajasthan, he had served as the Governor of Gujarat as well.
