Goa Assembly Elections 2022 Dates Announced, Voting on Feb 14, Results on March 10

The term of the 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly ends on March 15, 2022. According to the Election Commission of India the results of election will be declared on March 10.

New Delhi: The dates for Goa Assembly Elections 2022 have been announced and the state will vote on February 14. According to the Election Commission of India the results of election will be declared on March 10. The term of the 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly ends on March 15, 2022.

The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the dates for Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand, which will be held between February to March, 2022. Uttar Pradesh will go to poll in 7 phases from February 10 to March 7, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa will vote on February 14 and Manipur to vote in two phases on February 27 and March 3.

The notification for elections will be out on January 21 and the last date of nominations will be January 28. The scrutiny of all the nominated candidates will be done on January 29. The date of withdrawal of candidates will be January 31. The counting of votes will take place on March 10, the EC said on Saturday. Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Election Commission on Saturday banned election rallies, roadshows and corner meetings till January 15 in the five poll-bound states. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said the poll authority will review the COVID-19 situation on January 15 and take a further call on allowing public rallies.

“The Commission will not hesitate to bar parties from further rallies if COVID protocol is not followed,” Chandra said. The Commission also set out stringent COVID guidelines, restricting the number of persons allowed for door-to-door campaigns to five.

Political parties have been asked to provide masks, hand sanitisers to people attending rallies, if they are allowed, Chandra said.

The Election Commission had announced the dates for the 2017 Goa Assembly Elections on January 4, 2017. The electionwas held in a single phase and the results declared on March 11, 2017.

In the 2017 Goa Assembly polls, the average turnout was 81.21%. Out of the total eligible voters 78.40% male cast their votes and 83.94% females did the same.

While the Congress won 17 seats, the BJP came second with 13. The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa Forward Party and Independent candidates had won 3 seats each and Sharad Pawar’s NCP got just 1 seat.
