Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij Criticises New Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi

New Delhi: Following Charanjit Singh Channi’s appointment as the Chief Minister of Punjab, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij took a jibe at him on Monday.

Vij on took to his Twitter account and stated, “Whoever is being appointed as Punjab’s CM is Congress party’s internal matter but the person who takes all his decisions by a coin toss, is absolutely not worth it.”

Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on Monday.

Earlier, Vij drew parallels between the Punjab Congress and a sinking ship, terming it “unstable”, pointing out that the reason behind the political development is ‘internal conflicts’ within the party.

Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday resigned as Chief Minister of Punjab, citing continued humiliation by the Congress leadership over the past two months.

AICC general secretary Harish Rawat had earlier said in a tweet, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce that Sh. #CharanjitSinghChanni has been unanimously elected as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab.”

Channi’s elevation, barely five months before Assembly polls, assumes significance as Punjab has nearly 32 per cent Dalit population.

The BJP had earlier announced that if voted to power in Punjab, it will make a Dalit the chief minister, while the SAD, which is fighting the coming polls in alliance with the BSP, had said that its Deputy Chief Minister would be from the Dalit community.

Channi, who is believed to have got strong backing from state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sunday evening met Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and staked claim to form the government.
