IED Found At Delhi’s Ghazipur Flower Market, NSG Carries Out Controlled Explosion

New Delhi: An improvished explosive device (IED) was found in an abandoned bag at Delhi’s Ghazipur flower market on Friday. Delhi Police bomb squad and the National Security Guard (NSG) were rushed to the spot in East Delhi to take control of the situation and defuse the bomb.

The NSG team carried out a controlled explosion of the IED.

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana confirmed about the recovery of the IED. “Based on the information received, an IED has been recovered,” he said in a statement.

Fire officials said they received the information of the suspicious unattended bag which was spotted in the flower market at 10.19 am. A senior police officer earlier said a suspicious metal box was found in the market.

National Security Guard (NSG) successfully controlled the situation and later collected samples of the IED to know the chemical components used to assemble the explosive, team will submit a report on the same. Official sources said the black-coloured bag weighed around 3 kg, as reported by PTI

“In wake of the ongoing third wave of COVID-19 in the country, the Republic Day celebrations will take place with stricter restrictions than the ones imposed last year with the possibility of further reduction in the number of visitors allowed to witness the parade.” said an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

The officials told ANI that a joint meeting was held by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence and other agencies to discuss the safety and security of visitors during the event.

“The route of the parade will be shorter as similar to last year. The marching contingent will end at the India Gate C-Hexagon instead of Red Fort. The Rajpath that has been redeveloped under Central Vista has been opened between Vijay Chowk and India Gate for rehearsal of contingent participating in Republic Day Parade 2022,” the official told as reported by ANI.

IED Found in Srinagar

Security forces on Friday detected and defused an IED in Srinagar’s Nowhatta area. “Police and CRPF detected a suspicious bag lying at Khawaja Bazar Chowk in Nowhatta area of Srinagar,” a police official said.

He said a team of bomb disposal squad was called to the spot, which “found a four to five litre pressure cooker (suspicious IED) in the bag”. The bomb squad later destroyed the IED on the spot, the official said.
