In First List For UP, BJP Focuses On OBC, Congress On Women, SP Woos Muslims

Not a single Muslim has been given a ticket in the first list of BJP. The party has rewarded Akash Saxena, who filed the case against Azam Khan in Rampur, with a party ticket.

New Delhi: After Congress and SP, BJP on Saturday released the first list of candidates for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. According to the BJP’s list, CM Yogi Adityanath will be the candidate from Gorakhpur city seat, while Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya will contest from Sirathu. The party has bet on Mukesh Chaudhary in place of MLA Dharam Singh Saini, who left BJP from Nakur seat.

Not a single Muslim has been given a ticket in the first list of BJP. The party has rewarded Akash Saxena, who filed the case against Azam Khan in Rampur, with a party ticket. Yogi Adityanath’s close minister Suresh Khanna has been nominated from his city Shahjahanpur.

60% Tickets To OBC And Women Candidates

Out of 107 candidates declared in the first list, 60 per cent tickets have been given to OBC, Dalit and women candidates. Notably, Dalit candidates have also been given place in General seats. This comes amid the recent exodus of ministers and MLAs, who accused the BJP of being anti-backward caste and anti-Dalit. BJP has nominated 44 members of the backward castes, 19 of scheduled castes as candidates and 10 women have also been given tickets. According to the first list, 63 MLAs have been given tickets.

Congress Focus On Muslims After Women

Out of 125 Congress candidates, 88 have been given tickets for the first time, 15 candidates for the second time, 10 for the third time, 7 for the fourth time, 3 for the fifth time and one, Pradeep Mathur, for the sixth time. A maximum of 33 people from the Dalit class, 18 Brahmins, 23 OBCs and 20 Muslims have been made candidates. 3 Sikhs and 14 Thakurs have been made candidates while 10 Vaishya Samaj people have also got Congress tickets.

After women, Congress has focused on Muslims the most. The party has given 19 tickets to Muslims. 57 of the General category, 35 of the backward class, 32 of the scheduled caste and one scheduled tribe have been given tickets. According to caste, 18 Brahmins, 15 Jatavs, 14 Rajputs and 5-5 people from Yadav and Kurmi have been made candidates.

SP-RLD Ahead In Betting On Muslims

On the other hand, the SP-RLD alliance has declared 29 candidates in the first list. Among them, RLD has 19 and SP has 10 candidates. 9 out of 29 candidates are Muslim, while one is female. RLD has fielded 4 out of 19 Muslim candidates while SP has fielded 5 Muslim candidates out of 10. The Gurjar and Saini communities have also been given importance.
