India Records 2.85 Lakh New Covid Cases, Positivity Rate Up From 15.52% To 16.1%

India will celebrate its 73rd Republic Day today. COVID-19 Vaccine developers Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute were among the top leaders to be conferred with the recently announced Padma Bhushan.

New Delhi: India reported 2,85,914 new COVID cases, 665 related-deaths and 2,99,073 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate saw a rise from 15.52% to 16.1%. The total number of active cases in the country now stand at 22,23,018.

The weekly positivity rate is at 17.33% while the recovery rate in the nation stands at 93.23%. A total of 72.05 crore tests have been conducted so far, with 17,69,745 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Delhi on Tuesday reported 6,028 Covid-19 cases and 31 deaths, slightly up from the previous day, as per the data furnished by the Health department. The positivity rate in the national capital continued to show a decline at 10.55 per cent.

The national capital had reported 5,760 new COVID cases and 30 deaths on Monday, while the positivity rate was at 11.79 per cent.

India’s financial capital continued to report cases below 2000-mark on the second consecutive day as Mumbai logged 1,815 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. The case tally was lower by 42 cases as compared to 1,857 Covid-19 cases recorded on Monday.

The city also reported 735 recoveries and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the health bulletin released on Tuesday.

The celebrations this year are special as India is in the 75th year of Independence, being celebrated as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Founders of indigenous COVID-19 vaccine developer Bharat Biotech — Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella, along with Cyrus Poonawalla, the chairman and MD of another vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India and Tata group chief N Chandrasekaran were among the top industry leaders who were on Tuesday conferred the country’s third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan.
