New Delhi: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar in a press conference on Friday (May 28) claimed that the government will be vaccinated by the end of this year.

Javadekar discussed the government plan to administer 216 crore doses to inoculate 108 crore people in India by December 2021, during a press meet on Friday.

“Rahul Gandhi ji, We will have 216 crore new vaccines in India by December. Which will inoculate more than 108 crore people. Do not act to spread fear. India is the second fastest and most vaccination country today,” he said.

“Covishield, Covaxin, Novavax, Genova, Sputnik and vaccines that are produced in India or are imported from abroad, including the number of vials that will be needed have been included in the report, ” he said.

The announcement was his response to Rahul Gandhi’s scathing remarks who questioned the national vaccination programme, Javadekar on Friday announced the outline of the Centre’s plan which wants to inoculate 108 crore people by December 2021.

Indian Government decided to begin its third phase of vaccinations in the country, for its population above 18 years of age from May 1. This means that the total size of the population that is now be eligible for vaccination is 841.95 million out of the total population of 1,332.69 million. According to India Ratings and Research’s (Ind-Ra) estimates, this drive may cost Rs 671.93 billion to the Centre.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in a series of scathing remarks.

“Lockdown, social distancing, wearing masks are just temporary strategies to fight the Covid-19. Getting people fully vaccinated is the only way to eradicate coronavirus from the country,” Rahul Gandhi said in a virtual press conference held in New Delhi on Friday.

“The Prime Minister’s ‘nautanki’ is the reason behind the second wave of COVID-19 in India. He did not understand COVID-19.” He added that temporary strategies will not eradicate the disease and vaccination is the key to stop reoccurrence of Covid-19 waves in the country.
