Due to their enormous wealth, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are well-known figures, but the richest woman in India is unknown to many people. According to Bloomberg, Savitri Jindal has surpassed Yang Huiyan of China to take the title of the richest woman in Asia with a net worth of $11.3 billion.

According to Forbes‘ 36th-annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest people, India’s richest woman has tripled her wealth in just two years. The 72-year-old matriarch of the Jindal Group is ranked 7th on India’s Richest 2021 and 91st overall among billionaires in the world.

Who Is Savitri Jindal?

Savitri, born on March 20, 1950, in Tinsukia, an industrial town in Assam, wed OP Jindal in 1970. It’s interesting to note that the Jindal Group is almost as old as Savitri; her husband established a small manufacturing facility in Hisar, Haryana, when he first started his company in 1952, manufacturing buckets. Then, in 1964, he expanded and founded Jindal India Limited, a pipe-production company. His first significant factory was in Calcutta at the time, which served as the starting point for the journey that would lead to his admission to the billionaires’ club.

The business tycoon has a remarkable tale to share with the world. She was never able to attend college, but she didn’t let that stop her from paving the way for the success of her company. The family’s matriarch, OP Jindal, oversaw a four-fold increase in the OP Jindal Group’s revenue. And this was accomplished in a short period of time after her husband Om Prakash Jindal died in a helicopter accident in 2005.

The company is the third-largest producer of steel in India and also operates in cement, energy and infrastructure.
