J-K: Another LeT Commander Involved In Civilian Killings Gunned Down In Kulgam; Four Militants Killed in Total

New Delhi: At least four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Shopian and Kulgam on Wednesday. A soldier also lost his life in Kulgam during the ambush with militants, who were involved in the recent civilian killings in the Kashmir.

In a brief shootout in Kulgam, the security forces neutralised LeT commander Gulzar Reshi and his associate, who were involved in killings of two labourers from Bihar at Wanpoh on October 17.

Earlier, in the day another LeT commander, identified as Adil Ahmed Wani, was gunned down. The militant was involved in the killing of non-local carpenter Shakir Ahmed, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, last week.

As per IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, “Two slain militants were district commanders of LeT and were involved in killing non-local labourers, carpenter.”

Adil was a District Commander of TRF, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit, Kumar said. Wani was active since July 2020 and was involved in series of crimes since then.

Family of one of the slain militants have contested police claim saying their son was a civilian. However, police said he was a C-category militant.

At least 17 militants have been neutralised by security forces in the past two weeks and a total of 128 so far this year.

The operation in Shopian was launched after security forces received a specific tip-off about the presence of two militants in the area. As the joint forces zeroed in the suspected spot, the hidden militants fired upon the searching squad, triggering a fierce exchange of fire.

During the operation, three army soldiers were also wounded and were moved to Base Hospital for medical attention. One of them succumbed to the injuries while the other two are receiving treatment at the hospital.
