Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, who represents Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency, could be given the role of working president of the party’s state unit. This development comes close on the heels of Congress’ Dalit Sikh leader Charanjit Singh Channi’s appointment as Punjab Chief Minister. The Congress party seems to be making efforts to increase Dalit representation as the polls approach in these states.

Kanhaiya Kumar, who lost to BJP’s Giriraj Singh the 2019 Lok Sabha election from his hometown of Begusarai in Bihar, might bring a few other Left leaders along with him into the Congress fold. He has earlier met the Gandhi siblings to discuss his role in the grand old party.
