Kerala: Veteran Communist leader K R Gouri Amma died at the age of 102 on Tuesday. She was under intensive treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvanathapuram for age related ailments.

As per reports, the veteran leader finally breathed her last at 7 am today at a private hospital. Gouri Amma was the last surviving member of the very first ministry of Kerala.

An ionic leader for multiple reasons, she was also the first Revenue minister of the State in the EMS cabinet in 1957.

Upon the Communist party split in 1964, she became part of CPI(M). In 1994, she was expelled from CPI(M) the following some internal rifts.

K R Gouri Amma then decided to form the Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS) and went on to join Congress lead United Democratic Front.

Gouri Amma was also the Agriculture Minister in the UDF cabinet from 2001 to 2006, which was lead by Antony and Oommen Chandy.
