New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Kollam district, Kerala, a 28-year-old woman died after being set on fire by her live-in partner.

The deceased has been identified as Athira and the accused has been identified as Shanavas who has also sustained burn injuries.

According to the police, the duo had been living together for a long time.

On Tuesday, there was an altercation between the couple regarding a video shot by Athira, for posting as an ‘Instagram reel’.

The altercation soon heated up after which Shanavas poured kerosene over Athira and set her on fire.

Neighbors who rushed to the after hearing Athira’s screams saw her scrambling inside the house, ablaze

The couple was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college where Athira succumbed to the burn injuries on Thursday.

In a statement to the police recorded before her death, she named Shanavas as the main accused.

The couple also has a child who is one month old.

Shanavas continues to be in the hospital with about 40 per cent burn injuries
