Kolkata: After defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly election, the Trinamool Congress now has eyes of expansion of the party not only in the North Eastern States but also in Goa.
The Trinamool Congress has vowed to defeat the ruling BJP in upcoming the 2023 Assembly polls in Tripura and already the youth leaders senior leaders have begun visiting Tripura along with TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee while Prashant Kishor’s IPac team have already begun their foundation work for the Tripura assembly polls in 2023.
Meanwhile, TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday in a public meeting shared her party’s pan-India plans in several states, including Goa.
Ahead of the Assembly polls in Kolkata’s Bhabanipur, Banerjee said, “This election will give you the strength to fight across the country. We will contest in other states. We will contest in Tripura. Tripura te khela hobe, Assam te khela hobe, Goa te khela hobe, UP te khela hobe.”
Sources further said that TMC is already in talks with a senior Congress leader in Goa who may join the party.
Sources have confirmed to India Ahead that Political strategist Prashant Kishor, who advised TMC during the West Bengal Assembly poll, has made trips to Goa earlier this month and held discussions with political leaders there.
Sources further said that after the Durga puja is over TMC Supremo will make a visit to Goa herself. Her itinerary will include a trip to Tripura then Delhi and finally Goa, by then team PK will already have the stage set for Ms Banerjee. Already a team of 200 people from poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) is working in Goa.
Assembly polls in Goa are expected to be held in February-March next year.
Many have questioned that why is TMC targeting Goa when it has no presence there but it is seen that Goa has 40 assembly seats and the Congress is weak which is why in the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress won 17 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party 13 but still the BJP went on to form the government.
TMC sources said the party can take advantage of the fact that the Congress is weak in Goa and the fact that the people of the State do not want the BJP to rule the state thus TMC can be the next alternative.
The TMC renewed its contract with the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), the company launched by election strategist Prashant Kishor, till the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
