Lionel Messi Tests Positive For Covid-19, Confirms PSG

Messi is among four players in the Paris Saint-Germain squad to have tested positive for the COVID-19 ahead of the team's French Cup game on Monday night.

New Delhi: Lionel Messi has tested positive for COVID-19 and has entered self-isolation, his club Paris Saint-Germain announced on Sunday. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi is among four players in the Paris Saint-Germain squad to have tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of the team’s French Cup game on Monday night.

“The four players that tested positive for COVID-19 are Lionel Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, Nathan Bitumazala. They are currently in isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocol,” informed PSG.

Mesi will miss Monday’s cup tie and is also likely to be sidelined for PSG’s first Ligue 1 match since the winter break, at Lyon next Sunday.

In addition to the players, there is also a positive case among the PSG staff, the club said in a statement.

The club also confirmed that Neymar will continue his treatment in Brazil until January 9 with members of the Paris Saint-Germain medical and performance staff. His return to training is still expected to be in about 3 weeks.

PSG is set to clash with Vannes in the French Cup round of 32 on Tuesday.
