Maharashtra Govt Imposes New Covid-19 Curbs; Schools, Gyms To Remain Closed

As per the new guidelines announced by the Uddhav Thackeray government, schools and colleges in the state will remain shut till February 15.

New Delhi: Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases, Maharashtra government on Saturday has imposed fresh COVID-19 curbs, including a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. The government has also imposed restrictions on the movement of people in the state within this time except for essential purposes.

As per the new guidelines announced by the Uddhav Thackeray government, schools and colleges in the state will remain shut till February 15 amid the exponential rise of coronavirus cases in Maharastra.

No visitors will be allowed at government offices except with written permission of office heads. Online interaction facility will be provided for people through video conference in the state. Government offices are also advised to opt for work from home and working hours should be staggered if work from office is required.

Attendance at marriages and social, religious, cultural or political gatherings will be capped at 50. While at funerals, not more than 20 persons will be allowed. Apart from this, Swimming pools, gyms, spas, wellness centres, beauty salons will also remain close. Hair-cutting salons will function at 50 percent capacity.

According to the guidelines, sporting events would be also be deferred in the state, except national and international-level competitions which were already scheduled.

Only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to enter malls and shopping complexes, and these establishments will be closed after 10 pm. Restaurants, theatres and drama halls will operate at 50 percent capacity.

Meanwhile, Mumbai on Saturday reported 20,318 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours, as compared to yesterday’s 20,971 cases. The tally of the active cases in the city has now reached 1,06,037 cases. Of the total cases, 82 per cent of the patients are asymptomatic, down from yesterday’s 84 per cent.

Maharashtra so far has reported the maximum number of Omicron cases in the country. The state tops the chart with 876 cases of the variant, followed by Delhi with 513 Omicron cases.
