Maharashtra Logs 44,388 New COVID Cases And 12 Deaths In 24 Hours; 19,474 In Mumbai Alone

Maharashtra’s Omicron tally has reached to 1,216. The state recorded 207 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Sunday.

New Delhi: Maharashtra on Sunday reported 44,388 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours. The tally of the active cases in the state has now reached 2,02,259 cases.

Maharashtra’s Omicron tally has reached to 1,216. The state recorded 207 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Sunday.

While, Mumbai on Sunday reported 19,474 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths in the last 24 hours, as compared to yesterday’s 20,318 cases. The tally of the active cases in the city has now reached 1,17,434 cases. 

Mumbai on Saturday reported 20,318 COVID-19 cases and five deaths.The city on Friday logged 20,971 cases of coronavirus and six deaths were reported. The city on Thursday crossed the 20,000-mark of positive cases of coronavirus as it recorded 20,181 new infections.

The state government on Sunday revised the restrictions imposed in view of rising number of COVID-19 cases. As per the new guidelines, gyms and beauty salons will be allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity from January 10 midnight. On Saturday, the government had said gyms and beauty salons will remain closed, while hair cutting salons will function at 50 per cent capacity.

The government has also imposed restrictions on the movement of people in the state within this time except for essential purposes. Only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to enter malls and shopping complexes, and these establishments will be closed after 10 pm. Restaurants, theatres and drama halls will operate at 50 percent capacity.

As per the guidelines announced by the Uddhav Thackeray government on Saturday, schools and colleges in the state were advised to remain shut till February 15 amid the exponential rise of coronavirus cases in Maharastra.

Despite a rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, the need for hospitalisation and oxygen support was low, the state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in Jalna on Saturday.
