Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray tests positive for COVID-19

New Delhi: Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. He took to Twitter to confirm the news and asked everyone who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.

“On having mild symptoms of COVID, I had myself tested and I am COVID positive. I request everyone who came in contact with me to get themselves tested. I urge everyone to realise that it is extremely important to not let your guard down. Please follow COVID protocols & stay safe,” tweeted Thackeray.

Thackeray holds the portfolios of Tourism and Environment in his father Uddhav Thackeray led government in the state. Maharashtra is reporting a high number of daily new cases amongst all the states. It reported 13, 601 new cases in the last 24 hours and 58 deaths due to covid-19.

Meanwhile, in order to curb the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city, BMC announced that it will now conduct Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) randomly without consent.

The tweet says, “In order to curb the rising number of COVID19 cases in the city, BMC will now conduct Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) at crowded places. RAT will be conducted randomly, without the consent of the person and non-compliance will amount to action under Epidemic Act, 1897.”

BMC also announced that in malls across the city, a minimum of 400 daily tests will be conducted. A minimum of 1000 tests will be conducted across railway stations and bus depots. BMC also clarified that except for malls, the cost for tests will be borne by BMC.
