Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday visited Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national Vice President Mukul Roy’s wife at Appollo hospital in Kolkata.
According to sources at the hospital, Mukul’s wife had been in the post Covid care.
However, TMC has labelled the meeting as a mere courtesy call by the sitting MP to a former colleague. Mukul’s son, Subhramshu, has recent comment on social media which has raised many eyebrows especially during this post-poll scenario in West Bengal. In the midst of cutrent tug o war between Bengal and the Centre, Subhranshu Roy, had taken to Twitter and said: “Self-criticism is more necessary than criticizing a government elected by people” and this comment had raised eyebrows .
During the 2021 Assembly elections, Roy won from the Krishnanagar North seat in Nadia district. Meanwhile, his son Subhramshu had to face defeat from the Bijpur seat that during the recently concluded assembly polls. Both were previously key members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Mukul Roy joined the BJP in 2017, but was one of the main founding member of TMC and a close confidant of Mamata Banerjee. His son also switched sides two years later, leaving TMC for the orange brigade.
Mukul was also BJP’s election strategist during the 2019 Bengal Lok Sabha polls where the saffron camp bagged 18 of the state’s 42 seats.
