New Delhi: Padam Shri decorated Aeronautical scientist Manas Bihari Verma died of heart attack at his native place in Darbhanga district on Tuesday (May 4). Verma was a close friend of former President APJ Abdul Kalam and played an important role in the development of Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.

Sources close to Verma said that he passed away at his residence in Laheriasarai. He was single. Kalam had visited Verma at his residence twice and had praised his efforts to popularise knowledge of science among masses.

“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Padma Shri Manas Bihari Verma. His death has left a huge void in the world of science. The nation will always remember his contributions in the field of science,” tweeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitissh Kumar in Hindi.

Verma had launched “Mobile Science Laboratory” (MSL) vans in 2010 in the rural areas of Bihar to impart knowledge in science to children. Verma was colleague of Kalam in the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bengaluru. The reputed scientists had retired as Director of ADA in 2005 and was conferred with Padma Shri award in March 2018.
