Martyrs Day: PM Modi, Amit Shah pay humble tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through heartfelt social media posts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid their heart-felt tributes to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 73rd death anniversary on Saturday (January 30).

PM Modi took to social media and stated that the ideas of ‘Bapu’ still continues to motivate millions of people still while also speaking about the heroic sacrifices made by all women and men who devoted themselves towards India’s freedom.

“Tributes to the great Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals continue to motivate millions. On Martyrs’ Day we recall the heroic sacrifices of all those great women and men who devoted themselves towards India’s freedom and the well-being of every Indian,” Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah also took to Twitter and wrote: “महात्मा गांधी जी की पुण्यतिथि पर उन्हें कोटि-कोटि नमन। ।।विनम्र श्रद्धांजलि।।” (Woe to him on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Humble tribute.)

The nation mourned the death of the Nation’s father Mahatama Gandhi on Saturday (January 30). Several politicians paid tributes to the father of the nation and urged the citizens to follow his ideals of ahimsa(non-violence) and satyagraha(truth).

Gandhi was shot dead at 05:17 pm on January 30, 1948, as he was going to address a prayer meeting at Birla House(now renamed as Gandhi Smriti). His assassin was Nathuram Godse who was immediately caught and was later tried at the Punjab High Court. The court sentenced him to death and was hanged at Ambala Jail on 15 November 1949.
