New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday on the fifth day of the Monsoon Session after the opposition raised slogans against the government on various issues. Earlier the house was adjourned till 12 pm by Speaker Om Birla.
After the house was reassembled the opposition continued to raise slogans after which Kirit Solanki, who was in the chair adjourned the house for the entire day.
Several resolutions which included the appointment of members in various Parliamentary panels were passed in the brief period during which the house was functional.
The appointment was necessary as several new ministers have been inducted into the government in the recent cabinet expansion.
As opposition uproar continued, Solanki said that such behaviour does not suit senior elected members of the House and adjourned the proceedings for the day.
The Lok Sabha will meet on July 26 after a weekend break.
The Monsoon session has been off to a rocky start as the Opposition has been protesting against several issues such as the farmers’ protest, the Pegasus spyware, and rising fuel prices across the country.
On Thursday, TMC MP Shantanu Sen snatched a paper from the Information and Technology Minister Ashjwini Vaishnaw in Rajya Sabha and tore it into several pieces.
The paper contained the government’s response to the Pegasus Row.
Following this, there was a verbal feud between BJP and TMC MPs.
Marshals intervened to bring the situation under control. Heated words were exchanged between Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and TMC MP Santanu Sen.
On Friday, Sen was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon session.
