Mumbai Logs 20,318 New Covid Cases, 5 Deaths In Last 24 Hours

Despite a rise in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, the need for hospitalisation and oxygen support was low, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in Jalna on Saturday.

New Delhi: Mumbai on Saturday reported 20,318 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours, as compared to yesterday’s 20,971 cases. The tally of the active cases in the city has now reached 1,06,037 cases. Of the total cases, 82 per cent of the patients are asymptomatic, down from yesterday’s 84 per cent.

Mumbai on Friday logged 20,971 cases of COVID-19 and six deaths were reported. The city on Thursday crossed the 20,000-mark of positive cases of coronavirus as it recorded 20,181 new infections.

Despite a rise in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, the need for hospitalisation and oxygen support was low, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in Jalna on Saturday.

The spike in COVID numbers in the city saw a substantial drop in vehicular traffic all over Mumbai on Friday.

Dharavi in Mumbai, Asia’s biggest slum, which was praised for its COVID management in the second wave, is now battling the third round. On Friday, it reported 150 cases, its highest single-day surge since the beginning of the pandemic. The peak before this was 99, in April 2021.

Meanwhile, as per the data released by Union Health Ministry, India reported 1,41,986 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours out of which 40,895 recovery cases have been noted so far. The country’s daily positivity rate stands at 9.28 per cent today noting an increase in the positivity rate from 7.74 per cent yesterday.

Total active cases in India now stand at 4,72,169 out of which 3,44,12,740 recovery cases have been recorded so far. While, India’s vaccination drive has touched new highs yesterday by administering more than 150.06 crore vaccine doses to the population of India.

Amid the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, India has now entered a phase of no lockdown but strict restrictions all around. Administrations also urges people to follow Covid-19 Appropriate Behavior (CAB), to curb the infection of Covid-19 and Omicron in the country.
