New Delhi: Newly-appointed Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu is set take charge on July 23, according to sources on Wednesday. Reports also suggested that Sidhu has already sent an invitation signed by around 65 MLAs to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
Furthermore, Sidhu has also reportedly invited AICC in-charge of Punjab Harish Rawat for the above-mentioned programme.
Earlier on Sunday, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s appointment was officially announced and there has been no more meeting so far between him and the Punjab Chief Minister.
However, Amarinder Singh’s media advisor on Tuesday had said in a post on Twitter that Sidhu had not sought time to meet the Chief Minister.
He also asserted that Amarinder Singh will not meet Sidhu “till he publicly apologises for his personally derogatory social media attacks against him”.
Perviously, in a show of strength, 62 MLAs, reached Sidhu’s Amritsar residence on breakfast invitation.
The MLAs at Sidhu’s house said that the party is united and that there is no need for an apology.
The Congress had on Sunday also announced four working presidents besides announcing Sidhu as new state party chief. Sidhu has replaced Sunil Jakhar as Punjab Congress chief.
