Parliament Winter Session LIVE: Amit Shah Says SIT To Submit Report On Nagaland Firing In A Month

The winter session, which convened on Monday, is scheduled to conclude on December 23. Lok Sabha discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and various aspects related to it on Thursday, the fourth day of the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

New Delhi: On the first day of the winter session, Parliament passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 without discussion. Rajya Sabha has been witnessing ruckus for the past two days as Opposition leaders protested against suspension of 12 MPs for the rest of the session. The MPs were suspended over “unruly” behaviour in the previous session.

The winter session, which convened on Monday, is scheduled to conclude on December 23. Lok Sabha discussed the “Covid-19 pandemic and various aspects related to it” on Thursday, the fourth day of the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

The discussion, held under rule 193, holds significance amid rising concerns over the new Covid-19 variant Omicron being reported in many countries. The new Omicron variant was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) by South Africa on November 24.

Here are the top updates from the winter session of Parliament:

– Rajya Sabha adjourned till 11 am on Tuesday.

– Rajya Sabha Adjourned till 4 pm.

– Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke in Lok Sabha on the Nagaland firing incident and said that the case was of the mistaken identity as Army had received info on the movement of extremists in Oting, in Mon district and on suspicion of the vehicle carrying extremists, it was fired upon. Shah said, “Army had received information on the movement of extremists in Oting, in Mon district. On that basis, 21 commandos laid an ambush in the suspected area.

– A vehicle reached there, it was signalled to stop but it tried to flee. On suspicion of the vehicle carrying extremists, it was fired upon. 6 out of the 8 people in the vehicle died. It was later found to be a case of mistaken identity. 2 others who were injured were taken to the nearest health centre by Army. After receiving news of this, local villagers surrounded the Army unit, set 2 vehicles on fire and attacked them,” added Shah.

– Shah added that as a result, one jawan of the security forces died. Many other jawans were injured. “Security forces had to resort to firing for self-defence and to disperse the crowd. This caused the death of 7 more civilians, some others injured. Local administration-Police tried to bring the situation to normalcy,” he said while giving the details of the incident. The current situation is tense but under control.

-Opposition MPs continued their protest at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament on Monday over the suspensions of the 12 MPs from the Rajya Sabha for the rest of the winter session.

-The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2020 was passed by the Lok Sabha on November 30.

-The Centre is scheduled to table the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2020 in Rajya Sabha on Monday during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

-Union Home Minister Amit Shah to give a statement on the Nagaland firing incident in both the Houses of the Parliament today. Some Naga youth were reportedly killed in Oting village of Nagaland’s Mon district on Saturday when they were allegedly fired at by security forces, who suspected them to be terrorists. Reportedly, irked villagers torched vehicles of security forces and some people were reportedly shot when security forces opened fire to control the irate mob.
