Parliament Winter Session: PM Modi Says Govt Ready To Answer All Questions; Cong Holds Protest Over Farm Laws

New Delhi: As the winter session of Parliament prepares to commence on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it an ‘important session’ and said the government is ready to answer all questions. “This is an important session of the Parliament. The citizens of the country want a productive session….We are ready to discuss all issues and answer all questions during this session,” said PM Narendra Modi ahead of the winter session.

“Government is ready to discuss all the issues. Voices can be raised, but the dignity of Parliament, Speaker and the Chair should be maintained.” said PM Narendra Modi ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders held protests outside Parliament as they demanded the repeal of the three farm laws.

Ahead of the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said there are many issues facing the country on which there is a need for a serious discussion and hoped that members will extend their support to ensure that the House runs smoothly and in an orderly manner.

In a series of tweets in Hindi, the Speaker expressed hope that members will maintain discipline during the proceedings.

TMC, AAP Skip Oppn Meet

Meanwhile, the Opposition led by Congress held a meeting ahead of the commencement of the session. The meeting called by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge was attended by 11 parties.

DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and TR Baalu, RJD’s Manoj Jha, NCP’s Vandana Chavan and Supriya Sule, CPM’s Elamaram Karim, CPI’s Binoy Viswam, IUML’s Mohd Bashir, MDMK’s Vaiko, LJD, NC’s Hasnain Masoodi and RPS’ NK Premchandran attended the meet.

However, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose to stay away from the Opposition meeting.

Adhir Ranjan Moves Notice For Suspension Of Question Hour

Leader of Congress Party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday moved a notice for suspension of Question Hour to take up a discussion requesting the government to declare Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops backed by a legal guarantee.”

“I want to move the following motion before taking up the question of the hour. That the Question Hour be suspended today to take up a discussion, requesting the Government to declaring Minimum Support Price for all crops, backed by legal guarantee,” Chowdhury letter to Lok Sabha Secretary General read.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday called for support of farmers ahead of Parliament’s winter session. “Today we have to make the sun rise in parliament in the name of Annadata,” the Congress leader said in a tweet.

The Congress has also issued a three-line whip to its MPs asking them to be present in both the Houses of the Parliament today.

Farm Laws Repeal Bill On Agenda Today

On the first day of the winter session of Parliament on Monday, the Government of India is likely to move the three ‘Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021’ in the Rajya Sabha after it is passed by the Lok Sabha.

The three ‘Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021’ was circulated among Rajya Sabha members on Friday. The BJP-led government has a heavy agenda for the winter session with its legislative business including 26 new bills.

The Parliament’s winter session is set to begin on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on December 23.
