New Delhi: Leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari condoled the death of former Union minister and Jammu and Kashmir governor Jagmohan, saying the country has lost an excellent administrator.

Former union minister Jagmohan was 93 years old and breathed his last on Monday after a spell of illness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise and tweeted, “Jagmohan Ji’s demise is a monumental loss for our nation. He was an exemplary administrator and a renowned scholar. He always worked towards the betterment of India. His ministerial tenure was marked by innovative policy making. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

“His exceptional contribution to the nation as governor of Jammu and Kashmir will always be remembered. The country has lost an excellent administrator in his death,” the Vice President Secretariat tweeted quoting Naidu.

Home Minister Amit Shah shared a picture of former minister Jagmohan while expressing his sadness on his demise and said, “Shri Jagmohan Ji will always be remembered for his remarkable tenure as the Governor of J&K. An able administrator and later a devoted politician who took key decisions for the nation’s peace & progress. India mourns his sad demise. My deepest condolences to his family. Om Shanti”

 

BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari took to Twitter and said, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Jagmohan ji. He served as Cabinet Minister in Atal Ji’s Govt and was Governor of Jammu & Kashmir. My deepest condolences to his family and followers. Om Shanti.”

While Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said,”Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Jagmohan Ji. His contribution towards the betterment of our nation will never be forgotten. I pray to God to bless the departed soul and give strength to his family to cope with this loss.”

Jagmohan Malhotra began his career in Indian polity as a bureaucrat and served as the lieutenant governor of Delhi. He later was appointed as governor in Jammu and Kashmir governor in 1984 for a five-year tenure. While militancy was at its peak in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Jagmohan became J-K governor again in 1990 but was removed after terrorism erupted in the state and differences cropped up between him and V P Singh-led government at the Centre over tackling militancy.
