New Delhi: As India marks National Youth Day on the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 12, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared a video on her Instagram handle appealing to the youth to come together and fight for their rights. The Government of India had, in 1984, declared this day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event has been celebrated every year.
Addressing the youths from all walks of life, the Congress leader urges them to rise against the injustices in the society and demand the development they deserve. “This is the time to fight for overall development of the nation, unemployed, women empowerment. The youth and women deserve their rights no matter which community, race, caste, religion they belong. It is not a favor, development is something that everyone deserves,” she said in the video message.
Priyanka Gandhi also said, “That it is no a rivalry between two communities, it is a fight for development and empowerment of the nation. The youth of Uttar Pradesh has been fighting for so long for their rights and this is the time for us to unite as one.”
Earlier, the Congress general secretary slammed rival parties for ignoring women, saying they started talking about women only after her party gave the slogan of ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon (I am a girl and I can fight)’. Addressing the ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon, Shakti Samvaad‘ organised under the party’s women empowerment campaign, she said the Congress’ “one small initiative has awakened all the political parties”.
The Congress has announced it will give 40 per cent of tickets to women candidates in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls. ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon‘ is one of the slogans it has given to underscore women power.
Last Saturday (January 8), the Election Commission Of India announced that the elections for Uttar Pradesh will take place in seven phases from February 10 to March 7, 2022. Uttar Pradesh will see a total of 403 legislative assembly seats go to polls. The total number of polling stations in the state will be 1,74,351. Approximately over 15 crore voters will be eligible to cast their ballot this election.
