New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who on Friday unveiled the party’s youth manifesto- Bharti Vidhan, while interacting with media hinted that she is likely the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Priyanka who has been in the political limelight for a shorter duration than her sibling, Rahul Gandhi, has proved herself to be a formidable force to reckon with. She played a major role for the grand old party when she campaigned extensively during the 2004 general and 2007 Assembly elections. Many party workers believe that her efforts led the party to win back the constituencies of Rae Bareilly and Amethi.
The daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, Priyanka is touted to have inherited leadership qualities of her father and grandmother and former PM Indira Gandhi. She is also a trustee of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
However, Priyanka stayed away from active politics after the 2007 elections. She made her political comeback in 2019, when she was appointed as the General Secretary and then in 2020 became the party’s in-charge of the entire Uttar Pradesh unit when Jyotiradiya Scindia left Congress and joined BJP.
Priyanka married Delhi-based businessman Robert Vadra on February 18, 1997 and has two children-a son Raihan and a daughter Miraya.
