Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy on Sunday (July 11) ordered the reopening of schools for students of Classes 9-12, and colleges from July 16 amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“All schools for students in classes 9-12 will reopen from July 16. All colleges will also be reopened from July 16,” he said.
Speaking about Puducherry’s Covid-19 vaccination status, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “Vaccination has picked up in Puducherry, we have crossed over 5 lakh vaccinations.”
The government aims to vaccinate all eligible people in the Union Territory by August 15.
“People had vaccine hesitancy but now they have overcome it. Puducherry will be totally vaccinated before August 15, as per our plan,” she added.
The UT has 157 active cases of COVID-19, as per the Union Health Ministry.
Meanwhile India on Sunday reported 41,506 new Covid-19 cases down from 42,776 cases that were reported a day earlier. This was a decline of 1,270 cases in the last 24 hours. The country saw a jump of 2,159 cases on Thursday, according to the health ministry.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, the death tally decreased to 895 deaths in the last 24 hours up against 1,206 mortalities recorded on the previous day.
Active cases in the country came down from 4,55,033 on Saturday to 4,54,118 on Sunday.
The total recoveries pushed the total tally to 2,99,75,064 patient recoveries.
