New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh will be present in the ceremony where Navjot Singh Sidhu will be appointed as the chief of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.(PPCC) on Friday, reported ANI. Singh and Sidhu have been involved in a tussle for power within the state Congress unit for more than a month.
The issue was finally settled after Sidhu was given the PPCC chief post by the Congress high command.
Sidhu will take over the post on July 23 replacing Sunil Jhakar, a long-time Amarinder loyalist.
Earlier, it was reported that Singh will not meet Sidhu until he publicly apologises for his derogatory social media remarks against him.
The infighting between the two leaders made Congress send Harish Rawat as an emissary to the state to resolve the dispute.
The dispute between the two tall leaders came at a time when the state assembly elections were less than a year away.
A three-member committee formed by the Congress High Command has given its report to Sonia Gandhi on the developments in Punjab, recommending that the cricketer turned politician be ‘adequately compensated.’
Reports suggest Sidhu was not keen to be inducted in the Amarinder cabinet as deputy CM. He would rather head the state Congress unit, a position which is currently held by Amarinder loyalists Sunil Jakhar.
