Chandigarh: He is no big name in medicines but Dr Shashi Bhushan could easily qualify to be monikered as Punjab’s own version of Doctor Death for the kind of malpractices he has been indulging in. Dr Shashi Bhushan had been administering drugs and narcotic substances to prisoners of Ferozepur Central Jail for the last eight months.
For those badly addicted, he used to administer drugs with the help of a drip, for others, he would simply inject the narcotic or give it to them orally. The doctor’s malpractices came to light when a prisoner who was taken to Ludhiana on a production warrant revealed that he was being administered drugs. And in return, he used to distribute drugs to prisoners at the Ferozepur Central Jail.
Subsequently, a trap was laid by the police, and heroin worth Rs four lakh was seized from the doctor’s possession. Also, 14 lighters, silver foil, and three half-burnt Rs 10 currency notes were seized and he was arrested. A case was also registered on three other individuals involved in this drug racket in Ferozepur jail. They are Arshdeep aka Arshi, gangster Sunny Prabhakar and an accused named Mama.
The three individuals used to first introduce prisoners to drugs and then send them as patients to the prison hospital where the accused doctor Dr Shashi Bhushan used to administer them drugs either in a toothpaste cap (to the beginners), or used to give them pills to be ingested or would use a drip or an injection to administer drugs.
Even though all the doctors are frisked upon their entry into the prison hospital premises, Dr Shashi Bhushan was never caught with any drugs or narcotic substances at the time of frisking. Now, an inspection is being carried out of the entire Ferozepure Central Jail to ensure no more narcotic substances are found.
