Rajasthan Bypolls: Cong, BJP Announce Candidates For Vallabhnagar And Dhariawad Assembly Seats

Polling will take place on October 30 and counting of votes will be held on November 2.

Jaipur: The Congress and BJP on Thursday announced the names of candidates for bypolls in Vallabhnagar and Dhariawad assembly seats of Rajasthan. The bypolls have been necessitated due to the demise of Congress MLA from Vallabhnagar in Udaipur, Gajendra Singh Shaktawat, and BJP MLA from Dhariawad in Pratapgarh, Gautam Lal Meena.

The Congress gave ticket to Shaktawat”s wife Preeti  Shaktawat in Vallabhnagar and fielded Nagraj Meena in Dhariawad against BJP ‘s Khet Singh.

Instead of giving ticket to the family member of Gautam Lal Meena in Dhariawad, the BJP has fielded Khet Singh Meena, who has the backing of the RSS, party sources said.In Vallabhnagar, the saffron party has given ticket to Himmat Singh Jhala, who will be contesting against Preeti Shaktawat of Congress.

The last date of filing nomination is October 8. Polling will take place on October 30 and counting of votes will be held on November 2. Voting for the bypolls to Rajasthan”s Dhariyawad and Vallabhnagar Assembly seats will be held on October 30.

The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule for the bypolls on Tuesday. For the first time in these elections, the silence period has been increased from 48 hours to 72 hours.

The election notification for both the seats was issued on October 1.

Polling will be held on October 30, while the counting of votes will be taken up on November 2.

A total of 5.09 lakh voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise in both the assemblies, out of whom 2.57 lakh are male voters and 2.52 lakh are female voters.

In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said that for the first time in these elections, the silence period has been increased from 48 hours to 72 hours.

Campaigning in these by-elections will stop 72 hours before voting, he added.
