Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday (March 19, 2021) took a dig on BJP leaders by sharing some pictures of leaders like PM Narendra Modi, Minister Nitin Gadkari in shorts. This comes following the Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat’s ripped jeans remark which has triggered a series of protest online.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun, Rawat had said that he was shocked to meet a woman, who runs an NGO, wearing ripped jeans on a flight with her kids. “What kind of message are we giving out to society,” he had said.

Triggered the #RippedJeansTwitter Protest Online
It has triggered widespread protest from different quarters including celebrities, influencers and even journalists. They are protesting by sharing their pictures in ripped jeans. The pictures shared by Gandhi in which BJP leaders can be seen wearing shorts are from the time when RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) had this uniform. Later, they changed it to full pants.
Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan also criticised and expressed her disappointment over Rawat’s ripped jeans remark. She said that it is this ‘mindset that encourages crimes against women.
“Such statements don’t befit a chief minister. Those on higher posts must think before making public statements. You say such things in today’s times. Will you decide who’s cultured and who’s not on the basis of clothes? Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi Party, Jaya Bachchan was quoted by ANI on Thursday (March 18).
Not the First Time
This is not the first time that a Uttarakhand Minister has shared his views on the proper way a woman should behave in public. Previously, another minister from Rawat’s cabinet, Ganesh Joshi had also shared his opinion about women’s priorities in life and said that the most important thing for them is taking care of their family and children.
