Serum Institute of India To Start Manufacturing Sputnik V Covid Vaccine in September

New Delhi: Serum Institute of India (SII) is set to begin production of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine at the company’s facilities in September, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Serum Institute of India (SII) is set to begin production of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine at the company’s facilities in September, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced on Tuesday.

“The first batch of Sputnik vaccine is expected to be produced at SII’s facilities in September,” RDIF said in a statement.

The release also added that the parties intend to produce over 300 million doses of the vaccine in India per year.

“As part of the technical transfer process, SII has already received cell and vector samples from the Gamaleya Center. With their import approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), the cultivation process has begun,” RDIF said.

India administered 38.14 crores vaccine doses under the National Vaccination Program till July 11, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday (July 13).

According to the data, 38,14,67,646 vaccine doses have been administered so since the start of the vaccination drive on January 16.

Out of this, 40,65,862 doses were administered in the last 24 hours alone.

Last month, India achieves another milestone in COVID-19 vaccination and overtakes USA in total number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered.

As the new phase of universalisation of coronavirus vaccination commenced from June 21, in a landmark achievement, 88.09 lakh vaccine doses were administered on the first day of the new phase beginning June 21.

This was also the highest single-day number of jabs in the world.

India on Tuesday reported 31,443 new Covid-19 cases down from 37,154 cases a day earlier, according to the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The cases came down by 5,711 as compared to Monday.
