New Delhi: The Congress on Monday shared a short video, showing actor Sonu Sood in a short video clip on Twitter, saying that the “real chief minister” would be someone who deserves to be at the post and not someone who declares themselves to be the chief ministerial candidate.

The video comes after the actor’s sister Malvika Sood announced she will contest the Punjab elections, scheduled for February 20, representing the Congress party.

“The real Chief Minister is the one who is forcibly brought to the chair, and who does not have to struggle for it and does not have to state that I am the CM candidate. He should be a backbencher, who is brought from behind and told that you should become the CM. Such a Chief Minister can bring change in the country,” said Sood in the video.

Soon after Sood’s monologue ends, the video stars Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi taking part in various activities and events, suggesting that he is the kind of candidate that Sood had outlined.

Meanwhile, Congress has yet now not officially announced the chief ministerial candidate and has maintained that it will contest the polls under a “joint leadership”. However, the video that the party recently posted on its social media platform suggests that Channi will be the party’s choice over Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Channi, who is the first Dalit Chief Minister of the state, is a three-time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib constituency. It was only a few months ago in September when Channi took over Captain Amarinder Singh as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Punjab will vote in a single phase on February 20. The votes will be counted on March 10.
