New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday morning reached New Delhi ahead of his scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will meet Narendra Modi later today and request him to supply his state more COVID-19 vaccines.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian on June 13 had told ANI, “When Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin meets PM Modi in Delhi next week he will request to provide more vaccine doses to Tamil Nadu.”

“Death numbers are expected to decrease in coming days. Vaccination is the only solution to get rid of corona infection so people should come forward to get Vaccination,” he added.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi jointly reviewed the vaccination drive which is going on for vegetable shop vendors in Chennai Koyambedu.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccine Tally

India on Thursday (June 17) crossed the 26.5 crore figure in vaccination doses across the country according to the date of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A total of 26,55,19,251 vaccine doses have been administered till 7 am on June 16. Out the this, 34,63,961 doses were given in the last 24 hours alone.

The liberalised and accelerated phase-3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination has come into force from May 1, 2021 after which everyone above the age of 18 was eligible to receive a vaccine shot.

Out of the total doses administered till the early hours of June 17, 21,58,48,080 received the first dose beneficiaries while 4,96,71,171 were second dose beneficiaries. Out of the 34,63,961 doses administered in India in the last 24 hours, 30,96,616 people received the first jab of the coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, 3,67,345 people got the second jab of the vaccine yesterday.

India reported another spike in new infections as 67,208 cases were recorded on Thursday, up from the previous day’s 62,224 cases on Wednesday, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on June 17. A spike of 4,984 cases was registered in the last 24 hours.
