Former Telangana Minister Eatala Rajender Quits TRS, to Join BJP

Former Telangana Minister Eatala Rajender Quits TRS, to Join BJP Eatala Rajender alleged that he was being targeted by the Telangana CMO based on an anonymous letter.

Hyderabad: Former Telangana health minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Eatala Rajendar resigned from the party on Friday (June 4). Eatala says he was targeted by the TRS leadership which forced him to end his 19-year-old relationship with the party.

He alleged that the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office ordered an enquiry against him based on an anonymous letter which “hurt him”. “The democratic spirit has been muzzled. I am going to submit my papers to the Speaker. After discussing with others, I will decide (whether to join BJP). I demand CBI probe into the allegations against me,” he said in Hyderabad on Friday.

Eatala has been vocal about the way the K Chandrashekhar Rao  government has been functioning. He has also been making statements in the last one year that caused ripples in the party.

His comment that the ‘TRS party flag belongs to the people who fought on ground for the separate state and not one person or a few people’ had led to a massive uproar.
Eatala, considered a grass-root level leader and a Telangana movement fighter, was once close to the Chief Minister. The duo was together since the formative stages of TRS in 2001.

Coming from a very strong backward caste Mudhiraj, Eatala took a stand on the “real owners” of the party after speculations that KTR would take over the as Telangana CM.

He raised the issue of “nothing is being done to uplift the BC community” and schemes like “Kalyanalakshmi” are not helping s recently as May 2021. Keeping up his strident stance, Eatala also added that his ministry was not a “biksha” (charity) and backward castes deserve more.

Following his very public outburst and comments, KTR personally escorted Eatala to meet KCR at Pragathi Bhavan. He had in the last few months become very vocal about government lacunas that put the party in an uncomfortable position on several occasions.

Even though he was the state health minister, he was not included in a few cabinet meetings. During the peak of the Covid-19 second wave, he was vocal about not getting an appointment with KCR or KTR.

Eatala was in Delhi on June 2 and met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda. It is believed that five other leaders from TRS will join BJP along with Eatala.
