Kolkata: This Durga Puja if pandal hoppers want to catch a glimpse of Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, then one must visit Sreebhumi Sporting Club pandal in Lake Town. The puja organisers this time have replicated the Bhuj Khalifa.
The pandal is patronised by state Fire and Emergency Services minister and the president of Sreebhumi Sporting Club Sujit Bose told reporters, ”Every year our pandal replicated some iconic building. Previously we had themes like Paris Opera, Kedarnath, Puri Temple, Bahubali and many more.”
According to the organisers there will be special lighting arrangements made to wow the spectators and over 250 workers have worked for over two months.
According to the organisers, Covid-19 protocols which have been laid down by the Calcutta High Court would be strictly followed.
”We will strictly follow all the Covid guidelines laid down by the Calcutta High Court. The pandal hoppers visiting our pandal will have to follow all norms. There will be separate entry exit points and adequate space and physical distancing would be kept,” said an organiser of Sreebhumi said.
While, the Dubai tower stands at 2,722 ft, with 163 floors, 57 elevators, and eight escalators, the replica tower at Sreebhumi will be at least 110 ft tall.
Not just the the pandal, the gold ornaments and other decorations adorned by by Goddess Durga will also be special like every other year.
Devi Durga and her entourage have been sculpted by Pradip Rudra Pal while the decoration of the pandal is being done by Romeo Hazra.
The idea of creating the replica of Burj Khalifa was floated by Bose himself during the meeting of Bijoya Sammelani in 2018. Romeo who had visited Dubai then decided to take up the challenge.
Sreebhumi Sporting Club has always been a crowd puller but they also engage in social work. This year they have organised a blood donation camp during the festivities.
