New Delhi: A thunderstorm along with light to moderate intensity rain has been predicted over isolated parts of entire Delhi, Kurukshetra, Yamuna Nagar, Shamli, Nagar, Hapur, Garhmukteswar, Gurugram, and adjoining areas by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the IMD said that this is likely during the evening. “Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain with wind speed 10-20 kmph would occur over isolated places of entire Delhi, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Shamli, Nagar, Hapur, Garhmukteswar, Gurugram and adjoining areas,” said the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), New Delhi in a tweet.

The light rainfall is likely due to cyclonic circulation lying over West Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood and a trough that runs from this circulation to Assam at lower levels.

It also predicted light rain with wind speed of 10-20 km per hour in Haryana’s Hodal, Aurangabad, Palwal and in Uttar Pradesh’s Khurja, Barsana and in Rajasthan’s Nadbai and other adjoining areas during the next two hours.

In other updates, IMD predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on May 6, 2021. For south India, IMD says some areas in Kerala, Mahe and parts of Karnataka may experience scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunder. “Under the influence of north-south trough over south Peninsula at lower levels, light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rain/thunder is very likely over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep and Coastal and South Interior Karnataka,” it said.

The weather department expects heavy rains in parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Mahe from May 4 to May 6,”Isolated rain/thundershower over rest parts of south Peninsular India during next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Kerala & Mahe from 4 to 6 May and over Coastal & South Interior Karnataka from 5 and 6 May, 2021″, it added. IMD also said that there is no heat wave alert for any part of the country in the next 5 days.
