Triple Talaq Cases Declined After Law Against it Came Into Force: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

His comments came a day before 'The Muslim Women's Rights Day' which is celebrated on August 1, the day on which the law against triple talaq was enacted by the government.

New Delhi:  Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday said that the number of triple talaq cases in the country has decreased since the law against it came into force. Naqvi added that the law has been welcomed by Muslim women across the country.

His comments came a day before ‘The Muslim Women’s Rights Day’ which is celebrated on August 1, the day on which the law against triple talaq was enacted by the government.

The law was passed by the government on August 1, 2019, to eliminate this social evil.

“Naqvi said that there is a significant decline in Triple Talaq cases after the law came into effect. Muslim women across the country have overwhelmingly welcomed this law,” said a statement from the Minority Affairs ministry.

“Different organisations across the country will observe 1st August as “Muslim Women Rights Day,” it added.

Naqvi along with the Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani and the Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav will attend a programme in New Delhi to observe the “Muslim Women Rights Day” tomorrow.

The minister said that “the Government has strengthened “self-reliance, self-respect and self-confidence” of the Muslim women of the country and protected their constitutional, fundamental and democratic rights by bringing the law against the Triple Talaq”.

Triple Talaq also called talaq-e-biddat is a form of divorce practised in India where the man can divorce his wife bu uttering the word talaq three times.
