UP Election 2022: After Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Abba Jaan’, Tejasvi Surya Resorts To ‘Bhaijaan’ And ‘Miyan’

LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh – Applauding the Yogi Adityanath government’s commitment to development, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president Tejasvi Surya said that the present government believed in “sabka saath, sabka vikas aur sabka vishwas” which was the essence of Ram rajya, unlike the past when Akhilesh Yadav’s government practiced “Bhaijaan ka saath, miyan ka vishwas aur apna vikas.”

The allusion to Muslim appeasement during the Samajwadi Party rule was made by the 30-year-old Member of Parliament from Bangalore South at the inaugural session of BJYM working committee meeting at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan hall in Lucknow on Friday. It was, in a way, an extension of Adityanath’s comment in which he alleged that ration from government-run shops did not reach the poor as it was “digested” by those saying “abba jaan”.

The two leaders have set the tone for BJP’s election campaign for the 2022 Assembly election.

Surya said that he got a 15-minute appointment from the Chief Minister for today, but the meeting lasted well over an hour.

Surya is in Uttar Pradesh for a three-day visit to galvanize the youth for the Assembly election. The Lok Sabha MP spent Wednesday discussing poll strategy with members of BJYM and reached Ayodhya on Thursday.

Saying that he has come to Lord Ram’s birthplace from the land of Hanuman, the lawyer-turned-politician said that the youth’s support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it possible for the dream of the Ram Temple to be realized.

Surya was speaking at the Ram Katha Park.

Surya then launched into a story about how he was an ordinary worker who rose from putting up buntings and posters for Modi’s rallies in Karnataka to being the BJYM president. “Can you ever imagine an ordinary worker being made a minister in the Samajwadi Party which was more like a private limited company of and for only Mulayam’s family,” he asked.

Praising the “double engine government” of Modi and Yogi, Surya said that UP is steadily making progress on all fronts. “Mafia has been wiped out, girls feel safe and governance has been made corruption-free. Earlier bribes used to be paid for jobs like one pays for food items on a menu card— Rs 5 lakh for teachers and Rs 10 lakh for a policeman’s job. All that has stopped under Yogi Adityanath’s sushasan,” he said.

Surya urged the youth to take a vow to work for Hindu “dharma” and the country. He said that the BJP was the only party working towards the twin goals.

On the outcome of the 2022 election, Surya said, “The elephant (BSP) is tired and the cycle (SP) has punctured and only the lotus will bloom.” He warned of “aasuri” (demonic) forces coming together to oust Modi.

It was only towards the end of his speech in Ayodhya that he spoke of the danger from Islam. Referring to Afghanistan, Surya said that minorities were fleeing their country in search of a safe haven. Imagine if such a situation arose in India, where would Hindus go? He then urged the “Hindu” youth to be numerically, intellectually, economically, and politically strong to prevent such a situation.

The firebrand BJP MP believes that Bharat (India) can “survive only on the strength of Hindutva”. In an interview with The Times of India, he said, “We will go all out to raise the Hindutva cause” to ensure that the party returns to power with a thumping majority.

Surya, who represents a constituency that has a strong RSS base, is a strong proponent of Hindutva. Before the 2020 municipal polls in Hyderabad, Surya called Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM an avatar of Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

During the Covid-19 pandemic’s second wave, he and three MLAs raided Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) south zone war room, where he read out the names of Muslim volunteers in connection with a corruption scam. The raiding party charged the BBMP with turning the Covid camp into a “madrasa.” Shortly after his communal outburst, it emerged that the volunteers were not connected with the alleged scam.
